The bar chart below gives information about the percentage of the population living in the urban areas in different parts of the world. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

A glance at the provided graph reveals a trend in the proportion of urban dwellers in various places throughout the world from 1950 to 2007 as well as provides projections till 2050. Clearly, all parts of the world under study saw increases in the rate and the highest proportions belonged to North America.
As can be seen from the chart, the dominant region, North America, grew exponentially from 64% in 1950 to 79% in 2007 in terms of the percentage of population living in cities. Besides this, it is predicted to reach 90% in 2050. The second greatest was Oceania, at 52% in 1950; however, the figure for this area was outstripped by that for Europe and Latin America/Caribbean in 2007. In addition, Oceania will fall to the fourth position at the end of the period as it is estimated to rise steadily to 76%, compared with 84% of Europe and 89% of the South of America.
When it comes to the developing parts of the world, namely Asia and Africa, the rates ranked fifth and sixth respectively in 1950 and they subsequently went through a period of dramatic rise. In the middle of the 21st century, the order of these two areas will remain the same although sharp growth is expected to take place.
