Essay topic:
What are the causes of water scarcity? What are your solutions?
For the past few decades, humanity has achieved enormous success in various area. Yet, water scarcity has always been the one essential problem that puzzled the whole world. It is undeniable that there are various reasons that contribute to this problem. In this essay, I will illustrate some fundamental reasons.
To start with, the most obvious reason would be the increasing growth of worldwide population. With the development of science and technology as well as the improvement of overall medical condition, the death rate of babies has a decreasing trend since the middle 1980s. Therefore, the population has increased ever since. Since the water, which can be utilized by human being seems to be at a stable level, thus the increasing population would necessarily reduce the water consumed by everyone. It is not uncommon to see in many place in Africa that people die everyday due to the lack of health drinking water. In other place, such as the middle east, countries claim war to each other in order to obtain more water resources. The second contributor to this issue would be pollution to our water resources. To achieve high economic growth and also gain more money, factories dump wasted materials and polluted water into river, lake and ocean every. Similar example can be found in agriculture industry. Farmer, in order to promote productivity and improve high efficiency, use various type of fertilizer alone with pesticides, which will eventually penetrate through soil and enter into underground water system. Water once has been contained would not be subject to drinking either for human or for animal. The third factor that contribute to water scarcity is by wasting. Although, it has been brought up by scientists, social activists and environment organizations for a very long time, saving water resources still has not get enough attention. It is not unusual to see people waste water everyday. For instance, there would always be someone who forget to close the water tape. Besides, individual may take a very long shower during which he or she may consume more water than he or she actually needs.
It is obvious that water shortage is constituted of various factors. Therefore, to tackle this problem, various solutions have to be introduced. First of all, countries should work together to control the growth rate of world population. This would be especially helpful for Africa nations, for they are struggled with the lack of water. Besides, government and environmental protection organizations should take action to protect water from being polluted. Solutions such as developing environment-friendly fertilizer and utilizing high technology to transfer polluted water into clean water are crucial to protect our water resources. Finally, individual should pay more attention to water issue and increase the awareness of saving water.
To sum up, water shortage is a very complicated problem of modern society. Hence a wide range of solutions should be applied to address this issue. Only in this way, we can achieve a sustainable and harmony human society.

Essay topic:
Competitiveness is a positive quality for people in most cities. How does competitiveness affect individuals? Is it a positive or negative quality?
The past few decades has witnessed the global economy growing at a fascinating rate. Yet behind this glorious growing rate, the issue of competitiveness has show its influence in modern society. There are people who believe that we could have more competitiveness since it benefits the economic development. Others, on the other hand, criticize that too much competition has been involved in our daily life. In my opinion, competitiveness is not only a good quality for an individual but also an essential factor that contributes to success.
Competitiveness is the cornerstone of the development of world economy. The rivalry between different companies who are in the same industry, in fact, boosts the long-time development and innovation of that industry. For instance, few years ago, people could hardly image how thin their mobile phones would become, how many work that their mobile phones can do for them and how efficient the phone could become. These breakthroughs in mobile phone technology have largely due to the intense competition between several major mobile phone companies, such as Apple and Samsung. Moreover, the more competition exists in one industry, the more efficient the industry would become. Specifically speaking, once an individual tries to compete with his or her opponent, the potential ability of this individual is likely to be motivated. Therefore, a better performance would be expected from this particular employee. Hence, a more efficient and productive organizational culture would be the generated. In addition, competitiveness is also the trigger that encourages people to learn, to think, to improve themselves. One crucial factor that differentiates humanity from animal is that human beings have the intention to learn know things so that they can broaden their mind and improve themselves. Competition would encourage self-improvement and contribute to the growth of human intelligence.
It is undeniable that too much rivalry could cause serious problems. Those who insist that competitiveness is bad may argue that competitiveness contributes to overwhelming stress on people who end up may take his or her life because of that. It seems true at first sight; however, after a second thought, this claim is irrational. Competition itself can generate stress which, in some circumstances, motivate, encourage and promote individual to do a better job. It is people who may take too much attention on competition so that it in turn causes psychological problem to the individual. It is not uncommon to find those who can very well cope with the intense competitive environment and actually benefit from it.
To sum up, competitiveness in general is good to both our society and economy. Although it may lead to psychology issue in an individual, it could generate more profit on the condition that people can adapt to it.

Essay topic:
When visiting foreign countries some people think that it is advantageous to learn their cultures and traditions. How do you think people can learn other cultures and traditions?
With the fascinating development of world economy, more and more people are able to afford traveling abroad. The idea of learning another culture during traveling sounds tempting, yet people always find it is in fact very difficult to do so. In my opinion and based on my own experience, individuals can acquire the culture of their tourist destination through two ways. In the following essay, I will demonstrate them respectively.
The first way to learn another culture is to know something about the destination so that people can get prepared. It is not uncommon to find people complain after traveling abroad that they cannot get used to the life there and they find it extremely difficult to adopt the local traditions. Therefore, my first suggestion would be prepare oneself before the beginning of the journey. By doing so, individuals can not only learn the new culture more quickly but they may also adopt to the new environment more swiftly. To achieve this goal, people could try to read the local news or books about this new country. Besides, some television programs, such as the Discovery Channel and National Geography provide a wide variety of TV shows that contains information about a foreign resort. Thus, people who are going to travel abroad could equipped themselves with information provided on TV. Moreover, travel agencies are always a good resource to seek for help. Individuals are encouraged and welcomed to ask their agency any questions that bother them. Also, travel agency would arrange information sections or meetings to help traveler get familiar with their destination.
The second method to learn a new tradition or culture is through talking with the locals. This may seem difficult to achieve since the language of local residents is likely different from those of the tourists. Yet once this approach is applied, individuals would find it much more easy for them to learn and experience the local culture. Although in the past few decades, the pace of development of tourism is beyond our imagination, tourism still cannot satisfy people's need to experience a new culture. This issue mainly contributed by the fact that travelers tent to travel in groups and under the guide of an agency, hence they seldom have the opportunity to talk to locals and involve in local life. If individual could communicate with local residents and learn the original tradition from them, he or she is able to have a more profound understanding of the lifestyle, history as well as culture of the locals.
To sum up, there are two essential ways that people can use to learn a new culture when traveling abroad. The first one is to get themselves prepared and familiar with the culture or tradition of their tourist destination. In addition, individual can also acquire the knowledge through direct talking with local residents.

City dwellers seldom socialize with their neighbors today and the sense of community has been lost. Why has this happened and how to solve this problem?

Essay topic:
City dwellers seldom socialize with their neighbors today and the sense of community has been lost. Why has this happened and how to solve this problem?
In this age of change, human society has been progressing rapidly on various fronts. Yet the relationship between individuals has become estranged. In spite of talking to their neighbors, individuals tent to remain in their own home to avoid direct contract with others. This issue has raised the attention of many countries worldwide. This this essay, I will demonstrate the possible reasons that contribute to this problem.
First of all, the lack of security is a crucial fact of the alienation between people. To be specific, humanity living under the stress of modern society is suffering from the feel of insecurity. For instance, it is not uncommon to find someone claims that he or she has been robbed, or he or she has been cheated or been stabbed in the back. These real life experience makes it more and more difficult for individual to trust other, especially stranger such as neighbors or acquaintance for his or her community. Moreover, the media has accelerated the sense of unsafe among humanity. In the past few decades, the development of media, such as TV shows and movies is fascinating and our culture has been transferred alone with it. In order to attract more viewers, TV shows and movies start to show extremely violent and criminal materials. In spite of the fact that most of the horrible scene is fake, audiences are still influenced by what they see. These negative affects has been deeply impact the way individual treat each other. Hence, humanity begin to avoid socializing with each other so that they can become safe and sound. In addition, the increasing pressure from work has deprive from people the leisure time that can be used to social with others. With the development of socioeconomic, there is an increasing intention of competition between people at work. In order to survive in this trend, individual has no choice but to work hard by working beyond the clock. Therefore, individual is unlikely to have the time and opportunity to communicate with their friends.
As illustrated above, there are various reasons leading to the alienation between people. Hence, the solutions should vary correspondingly. To start with, people should try to open their heart and embrace life. Instead of staying alone in their own room worrying about the unpredictable dangerous, humanity need to be brave and accept the life and destiny they are given. Government should draw more attention to the living condition of community and fight crime so that citizens would increase their confidence in strangers and begin to trust each other. Besides, media should spread more positive message to the whole society other than violent and criminal scene. TV shows and movies could produce story which can bring the audiences happiness and comfort other than fear and worries. For instance, TV show can produce the happy story of a normal family that living with their nice and kind neighbors. Shows like this would possibly address the problems.
To sum up, there are a serious factors that contribute to the issue of alienation between people. To tackle this issue, a variety of different methods should be conducted through the effort of both individual, media and the government. Only in this way, in my opinion, can we sole this problem successfully.

Some people think it is a waste of money to establish libraries since the public can use the Internet at home to obtain information, do you agree or disagree?

Essay topic:
Some people think it is a waste of money to establish libraries since the public can use the Internet at home to obtain information, do you agree or disagree?
In the past few decades, the pace of changes in the development of science and technology is beyond our imagination, and our reading habit has been transferred along with it. With an increasing number of people reading through Internet, some claim that libraries are out of date. In my opinion, there is no need for government spending money on libraries under current situation.
Building public libraries is a waste of tax payers' money. One of the convincing argument is that there are many alternative ways people can acquire information other than reading a library books. For instance, thanks to the invention of Internet, individuals are now able to read daily news on their computers and smart phones. In addition, with the development of science and technology, there is a decreasing number of people who are willing to use the libraries. Since individual can both get informed and educated by various other media, such as TV, computer and newspaper, they find it is unnecessary to go to the libraries to study. As a result, a lot of libraries are not fully used, which is not only a waste of money but also a waste of valuable resources. Moreover, compared with the modern approach of reading, reading at a public library is not convenient. To be specific, those who want to use the libraries gave to undergo a time-consuming process before they can actually sit down and read in the library. Besides, there are always a lot of rules implemented in the public libraries. For example, readers have to have a valid certificate so that they can enter, and users in the libraries can not eat or talk while others are reading. Nevertheless, reading at home or other places in this case, will be proved more comfortable than reading at a library.
Some people may argue that public libraries are good places for young students to used due to the fact that libraries have no TVs or computers which can distract students from their study. This argument seems to be true at the first glance; however, it is unreasonable. It is not uncommon to notice that young students may daydream and play with their friends at the libraries, because they are not at home where they are supervised by their parents. Additionally, the money spend on building and managing the libraries can be used at other more crucial issues. For instance, in stead of building a public library, government can use the money to establish a primary school, which apparently is a more efficient way to improve the general education level.
To sum up, libraries are not useful under the modern life. Therefore, it is no point for government to put money on it when those kind of money can be used more efficiently on other issues.

Essay topic:
Some people think secondary students should study international news as a school subject, but others suggest that it is a waste of students' valuable school time. Discuss both and give your opinion.
Ever since the broadcast of the first international news, it has become an essential element in people's daily life. Therefore some claim international news should be included in the curriculum of secondary students whereas others oppose this suggestion. Personally, I believe that international news should be taught to secondary students.
There are two supporting arguments to my statement. First of all, acquiring international news helps students to rich their knowledge and broad their horizon. To be specific, with the development of globalization, the ties between countries have been enhanced leading a more integrated world where nations depend on each other. Hence, a comprehensive understanding of international affair provides secondary students the basic knowledge for exploration of the world. Thus, it is important to these students.
Secondly, equipped with knowledge of international news, secondary student are more likely to find a good job in the future. Under the impact of commercialization and globalization, there are an increasing number of international companies. These firms require their employees have global visions which can only be achieved through the learning of international news. That is to say, those who studied international news will have more globalized visions making them more competitive in the job market. Therefore, they have a better chance to work in multinational companies.
However the biggest weakness of this statement is that secondary students may find it very difficult to absorb such news. For instance, some foreign policies such as economic sanction and humanitarian aid may not be familiar to students who are in the second level. In respect of this, the idea of teaching international news is neither attractive nor productive. Nevertheless, if teachers could explain these terminologies to their students with patience and illustration, students would sooner or later understand international news.
In summary, the suggestion of teaching secondary students international news benefits both the educational system as well as the job market. However, substantive patience and demonstration should be involved in the process of teaching so that efficiency could be accomplished.
