Essay topic:
A person's worth nowadays seems to be judged according to social status and materials possessions. Old fashioned values such as honour, kindness and trust, no longer seem important. To what extend do you agree or disagree with this opinion.
It is the opinion of others these days that the real value of a person is based on having expensive things and living a high profile lifestyle, having such perception, people seem to have forgotten the old days when golden values like honour, kindness and trust seemed more important.
Moreover, it is the idea of some that having expensive cars, huge houses, extravagant gadgets and even having lavish top designer's collection are some of the material things that make people appears famous. Possessing that kind of pseudo fame, people tend to receive a sense of importance and respect from others. This mainly due to the impression of being rich and powerful. In addition, supporters of this view believe that an act of kindness is neither essential nor gaining anything. They have the belief that pleasing everybody is easy as long as they have the financial influence, despite having antisocial behaviours such as lack of consideration to others and self-centeredness.
However, I strongly disagree with the opinion expressed above! Traits like honour, kindness and trust whether rich and poor, values are highly important to possess. Unlike, publicity and influential power of the well-off, values are one of the things that define a person and cannot be taken away.Apart from this, with a strong sense of values, people will have the security of a strong bonded family or loyal friendship and healthy social relationship to others, which are necessary for every human at times of needs.
Furthermore, in my case, I am always guided by the saying "Try not to be a man of success rather to be a man of value" Yes! indeed, there are many aspects money can buy. But having said that, the best things in life are actually free such as family, love and laughter and good memories. Based on my own experience, I witnessed a big transformation from people with terminal disease from filthy rich and self serving into humble and unselfish human being. Truly hard times made an impact that money cannot buy everything particularly peace of mind, happiness and health.
To conclude values like honour, kindness and trust are extremely important to attained. Therefore I firmly believe that people endowed with true human act of kindness are truly successful because the true meaning of success is having great values in life than people with artificial amount of wealth.
