In many countries today, the eating habits and lifestyle of children are different from thos of previous generations. Some people say this has had negative effect on their health. To what extent do you agree?
Nowadays, children tend to absorb more fast food meals and engage in less physical exercises as compared to older generations. Indeed, the modernisation of our society has seen the emergence of new trends, hence, blessing our children with a wider range of products and activities. Nevertheless, some of them appear to have brought increased trouble in their wake.
On one side, children’s intake of fat and sugar has skyrocketed at the back of the opening of additional food outlets. Simultaneously, video games and compelling television programs are luring more youngsters indoor. As a result, lack of outdoor exercises and a bad diet have boosted the rate of obesity and diabetes among children to an alarming level. Scientists further claim that the most children are currently more likely to be deficient in vitamin C from the hours spent inside. Their immune system has also taken a hit as they bear lesser injuries from playing outside and from the surging amount of chemicals injected in their body.
However, reverting to the lifestyle of the previous generation may not be desirable. First, medical advances in the likes of vaccination and operation procedures have kept a flurry of diseases, which previously beset our parents, at bay. Moreover, due to globalisation, children are now able to enjoy a wider spectrum of dishes originating from every corner of the globe. In a similar line, youngsters are no longer restricted to the traditional bike riding or skateboarding as hobbies but can now also turn on their Wii to play tennis at home.
To conclude, statistics appear to support the fact that children are faring worse as far as their health is concerned. Hence, it seems that they are making improper use of the increased choice of food and pastimes at their disposition. As such, it is incumbent on parents and other adults to limit harmful ones while encouraging the beneficial ones.
