The graph and table below give information about water use worldwide and water consumption in two different countries.

Given are two figures providing a comparison of the amount of water consumed globally for various purposes over a century, and revealing the stark contrast in water consumption between two countries, namely Brazil and Congo in 2000.
As can be seen from the line chart, there was an upward trend in the water use in all three sectors under study. More specifically, agriculture ranked first, increasing exponentially from about 500 km3 to 3000 km3 over the years. Turning to industrial and domestic use, the numbers started at the same level in 1900. However, the gap between these two categories widened as the former grew significantly while the latter saw a period of slight increase.
In addition, the table shows that Brazil’s population, 176 million, was considerably larger than that of Congo, 5.2 million. Similarly, the land for irrigation in Brazil covered an area of 26500 km2, compared with a mere 100 km2 of the other country. Besides, each Brazilian enjoyed more water than a person from Congo did in 2000.
