Essay topic:
More and more people are working at home rather than in the workplaces. Some people say this will bring benefits to the workers and their families, but others think it will bring stress to the home. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
In the past few decades, science and technology have been developing at a fascinating speed and our life style have transformed along with it. This contributes to the reality that working at home is a symbol of commercialization and modernization. Some people are of the opinion that this phenomenon benefits both the workers and their families, whereas others are opposed to it. Personally, I support the former.
Admittedly, there are certain drawbacks of working at home, and the issue of stress is one of them. To be specific, as a result of bring work to home, employees are highly likely to bring the atmosphere from work to home too. For instance, being accustomed to the experience of meeting a deadline, arguing with a co-worker and competing with other colleagues, individuals have their own way to release their pressure and fatigue in workplaces. However, while working at home, employees have to consider the feelings of their family members, especially when there are young kids around. Therefore, in order not to disturb the routine lives of their family members, workers staying home have to control their temper, watch their language and constrain their behaviors which in turn may impose more stress and frustration on them.
Nevertheless, reaching the conclusion that home telecommuting triggers high level of stress does not necessarily implicate that it has no benefits. In fact, staying at home can improve workers’ efficiency and increase companies’ profits. For example, instead of staying at a overcrowded workplace wearing uncomfortable suits and ties, employees can be more relaxed and comfortable at home where everything is so organized and can sooth people’s nerves. When working under such circumstances, it is unlikely that workers would be disturbed or distracted. Thus it is the soothing and pleasant environment at home that stimulates employees’ creativity facilitating them to generate more profits.
In addition, family members, especially young children are positively impacted by this trend. It is not an unusual thing to discover that a vast majority of children lacks constant love and care from their parents who have to work full-time. Without the companionship of their father and mother, kids would become cold-hearted, isolated from the general public and would even develop resentment towards the society, since society keeps their parents away from them. This would not only pose great threats to a single family but the society as a whole. Hence, it is good for people to working at home.
In conclusion, working at home is double-edge, causing stress at home but benefiting children. Yet, as far as I am concerned, its benefits overweigh its negative effects.
