Essay topic:
People attend college or university for many different reasons (for example, new experiences, career preparation, increased knowledge).
Why do you think people attend college or university?
The number of individuals attending college or university has skyrocketed over the past decades. While numerous societal and economic changes have driven more and more youngsters to undergo further education after school, personal reasons also account for their move.
First of all, a degree is currently a must to build a solid career. Hence, lawyers and doctors are unable to practice unless they undergo formal training and education. Unfortunately, this also applies to other occupations which were previously classified as unskilled such as hairdresser and plumber. As such, completing a degree is the next stage of a high school leaver’s life if he wishes to earn a decent income in the future and gain a particular status in society from his occupation.
University is, furthermore, a once in a lifetime experience. Thus, this may be the first time that a young adult travels overseas, is exposed to a new culture and lives under a different roof from his parents. In a way, it is the perfect opportunity for the student to become more mature and learn to take care of himself. Others look forward to a unique university atmosphere coupled with parties and the chance to pursue their passion. Often, friendships forged during this period of time live forever as witnessed by subsequent gatherings by the university’s alumni club. Indeed, these educational establishments provide an experience which cannot be replicated by other organizations.
It should, moreover, be noted that some individuals are simply thirsty for knowledge and universities provide a plethora of subjects which they can choose from to satisfy their intellectual needs. These institutions are also the perfect environment enabling these people to teach their know-how to younger minds while undertaking research in their respective fields. Aside from furthering our understanding of the world, these studies may result into breakthroughs and innovations which, in turn, contribute to the advancement of society. Ultimately, universities allow some people to receive well-deserved praise and recognition from society for their contribution to knowledge.
To conclude, these tertiary education providers are likely to remain an important feature of our society given the innumerable benefits they bestow upon us. They, indeed, permit us to fulfill our life goals and dreams.
