Essay topic:
Some people prefer to live in a house, while others feel that there are more advantages of living in an apartment.
Are there more advantages than disadvantages of living in a house as compared with living in an apartment?
Owning a house of one’s own is a lifelong dream of every individual. But with the ever increasing population, land availability is now at a premium. It is very difficult to find a plot of land to build your dream house on. The limited numbers of plots that are available have such exorbitant rates that they make your heart skip a beat just hearing them, let alone paying them. The land scarcity combined with the high price tags of plots has given rise to the concept of apartments.
Individuals are divided over the thought that whether a house is more advantageous to have rather than an apartment. Owning a free-hold house has many advantages. Firstly, you own the house as well as the land that it is built upon. Secondly, it gives you the freedom to design the structure of the house as per your own requirements and specifications. You can plan the layout as to where you want the kitchen, the sitting room, the bedrooms etc. Thirdly, you can have a choice as to the number of floors you may want like whether it will be a single story affair or a two storied house, and it can be expanded later on too. Fourthly, you can also set up some space for a garden or a kitchen garden and have the pleasure of growing your own flowers and vegetables. Lastly, it offers you and your family total privacy, what with no nosey neighbors immediately around.
On the other hand, if we talk about apartments then they lack the privacy that a house offers. Apartments have shared staircases which may also raise security concerns since a number of people will be walking up and down them all day long and you can’t be really sure if all of them got any business being there or not. Apartments have a set layout and can’t be altered to suit your changing needs from time to time.
In conclusion, I would like to state that I definitely agree with the fact that houses are way better than apartments. But with the shortage of land and the ever increasing demand for housing, apartments are becoming the new way of life.
