The table presents data concerning alteration in various different means of transport in England from 1985 to 2000.
Overall, there was a significant increase in the total number of distance travelled by all transportation types. Likewise, car remained England’s most popular vehicle for expedition during the given period.
Apparently, English people traveled mostly by car, which accounted for over 3000 miles per person per annum in 1985 and subsequently rose to an average of 4800 miles the following 15 years. Besides, train also achieved higher popularity for travelling purpose, capturing an average of 124 miles by 2000. Additionally, the upward trend could be seen in long distance bus and taxi with data rocketing nearly threefold each during the course.
On the contrary, the remaining forms experienced an obviously opposite trend, notably in terms of local bus for whose figure fell sharply from 429 to 274 miles. Similarly, by 2000, the average person walked and cycled less than he formerly did at the beginning of the period, reaching 237 and 41 miles, respectively.
