Over the past decades, breakthroughs in the technological field have expanded the range of products and services available to mankind. These include advances in communication methods and travel opportunities which are ultimately linking the world into a global village defined by a mix of cultures instead of a single dominating culture.

On one hand, while televisions enable individuals from one corner of the world to obtain a snapshot of the customs and traditions of their peers from the other side of the globe, the increasing availability of computers and the world wide web is transforming this one-sided communication into a two-way channel. People who have never personally met can currently share their way of living through blogs and other social platforms. Hence, it not uncommon to see a French citizen dressed in a traditional Japanese Kimono for a party of a Russian chef cooking an Indian curry to perfection though they have never set foot in Japan or Russia. As the cost of electronic devices is further slashed, we can expect the world to transform into a true melting pot as people gain a better understanding of other countries.

Moreover, researchers are discovering more efficient ways of utilizing fuel or lighter materials to build aeroplanes, putting air travel within hands-reach of a greater proportion of the population. In turn, cultures are becoming more and more portable with the soaring migration level in various regions of the world. For instance, Chinese migrants have exported their customs abroad by setting a China Town in every major city of the world. While some cultures co-exist untouched beside others, like these traditional China Towns, others adapt to their new surroundings to produce novel outfits, dishes or songs. Thus, Korean artists have adopted the pop and r&b style of westerners to attract a wider audience overseas. The world, in fact, is witnessing a transformation of what it previously defined as a culture specific to a particular region.

To summarize, modern technology has prompted a worldwide migration of cultures. Traditions and customs are no longer practiced in an ancestral manner but are further subject to changes as they merge with others. Therefore, the world can boast a set of constantly evolving cultures.
