Dear Sir or Madam,
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am a student of your first year arts – English Literature, batch 2008,residing in college shared accommodation, room no. 103. I am writing this to bring to your notice my dissatisfaction with respect to the accommodation allotted. There are few concerns due to which I am unable to adjust myself in the current situation and hoping that you can resolve the same.
Firstly, I would like to say that I am very calm and studious by nature. I have chosen college accommodation just with the intention to devote my quality time in studies, but these days I am facing lot of difficulties with the arrangement of sharing room. To mention, there is one single wooden table in the room for two, because of which I am not able to unpack my regular staff and organize in my room as per my preference. In addition to this my roommate is very unorganized all her belongings are scattered in whole room which makes me irritated, I have also noticed that my laptop and other staffs are used by her without my permission. She is not keen on her studies also her behavior is very casual she enjoys loud music, speaks over a phone all long nights. Therefore, it is very difficult to work on my regular studies, I am literature student; I have to do thesis, projects which require peace and quality time.
Most importantly, I requested to share accommodation with a senior student, with the intention of gaining knowledge academically but I am sharing the room with one of my same batch mate. I am requesting you to kindly relocate my accommodation in the room with decent atmosphere where my studies are not hampered.
Hoping to receive your positive revert. Kindly do the needful.
Yours Faithfully,
Xyz

You were hurt in a minor accident at the supermarket and you wish to complain to the manager. In your letter

Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am a resident of XYZ block which is situated near your supermarket ( in ABC block). i am a regular customer of your supermarket and generally do the majority of my grocery shopping there.
Though I am satisfied with the service provided by your supermarket, I would like to bring to your notice a recent accident that took place while I was shopping there which caused me some minor injuries.
On 4th August, I visited the supermarket around noon. on entering, my attention was drawn towards an elaborate display of soup cans which were artistically arranged in the shape of a pyramid. I did my shopping and got my items billed and packed. As I was nearing the exit doors, another customer lost his grip on the trolley he was pushing. It crashed right in the soup can display and all the cans started raining down on me. I was taken completely by surprise and before I could react a hundred or so soup cans were on top of me.Some of your store clerks and other customers helped me onto my feet. the soup cans were heavy enough to make my forehead and shoulder , where they hit, throb with pain. I had to visit my doctor to prescribe me some pain killers.
I would like to suggest that , in future, please have such displays placed in such an area that they remain out of reach of wayward trollies and do not hurt people.
Yours sincerely,
Jane

Sir,
I am a tenant of your apartment situated on the ABC avenue, which I had rented from you last spring.
I am writing this letter to express my dissatisfaction with a particular piece of furniture that has been provided in the apartment. The sofa set is in a dismal condition. The seat cushions are in a poor state. The cushions seem to have disintegrated to such an extent that the springs are now visible. It is practically impossible to sit on two of the seats as the springs seem to dig into the back. Also the sofa cloth is old and faded. The sofa covers provided are moldy and moths seem to have eaten away at them over the years making them full of holes now. The frame of the sofa is rickety. The left leg seems to be a bit longer than the right.
I would request you to please have the sofa set fixed at the earliest as it is causing us a lot of discomfort. We have not been able to entertain any of our friends at the apartment either due to the above stated reasons. It would be great if you could also provide some decent sofa covers too.
Hoping to hear from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Jack Smith.

Dear Mrs Jones,
I am writing in regards to the lack of hot water at apartment 12, Block 2, Rusden House.

My flatmates and I kindly appreciate the services of the workmen you sent to repair the hot water system last week. Unfortunately, they discovered that the hearing system is in excellent condition. According to them, the gas company may have temporarily stopped servicing our apartment probably because the last bill has not been settled.
However, it should be noted that all the tenants at apartment 12 have duly transferred the required funds to your bank account. Hence, we would be very grateful if you could pay the necessary expenses as soon as possible. If you have already done so, can you please liaise with the gas company to resolve this matter?
We would like to bring to your attention that we are currently in winter and a lack of hot water for an extended period of time is unacceptable. We are extremely unhappy about this situation especially given the fact that we have been very loyal tenants and have always paid our bills and rent in a timely manner.
Regards
Tom

Write a letter to an employment agency. In your letter,

and say what experience and skills you have
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing in regards to graduate accounting vacancies available at your employment agency.
I am a recent bachelor of accounting graduate from Bond University. Throughout my university studies, I worked as a part-time customer service assistant at McDonald, hence, have acquired excellent customer service and communication skills. Last December, I further interned at J&S Pty Ltd, a small fashion firm, as an accounts receivable officer and was mainly responsible for completing bookkeeping tasks and liaising with customers. Over a period of 3 months, I was, thus, able to acquire extensive accounting experience in the fashion and became adept at employing accounting software.
I am currently seeking to extend this accounting experience by securing a position as a part-time graduate accountant in a small or medium company in any industry. I am available to commence work immediately.
I have attached my resume with this letter and am willing to discuss my application in further details at any time convenient to you.
Yours faithfully,
Sarah

Write a letter to the accommodation officer at your college.

Essay topic:
Write a letter to the accommodation officer at your college. In your letter
-explain the situation
-describe the accommodation you require
-say when you will need it
Dear Sir/Madam,
I have recently enrolled in a three-year bachelor degree at St Johns College and will be commencing my course in Semester 1 2013. Thus, I am writing to enquire about 2013 room vacancies at the college’s on-campus accommodation.
I will be arriving two to three weeks before the start of my studies on 1st of March 2013 as I wish to settle down, meet other fellow students and become familiar with the surroundings beforehand. Hence, I would appreciate if I can secure a room around that date for a minimum period of 1 year, if possible.
I am particularly interested in single fully-furnished rooms, preferably with an en-suite bathroom and common kitchen area and facilities. From browsing your website, I believe that Clarke Halls of Residence and Boot Complex meet these criteria. Nevertheless, I understand that this type of accommodation is usually in high demand and am willing to stay in a single room with shared bathrooms if the requested room is not available.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Bob

Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:
-offer to find somewhere to stay
-give advice about what to do
-give information about what clothes to bring
Dear John,
I am extremely delighted to hear from you after such a long time. You have made a good choice in picking Melbourne as your next holiday stop in December, a visit you deserve, especially after completing your university studies.
Since you are coming alone, I would not mind that you stay at my house. One of my housemates is planning to fly to Sydney to see some friends for one month, around the same time that you are coming here. So your accommodation has already been taken care of.
The same applies as far your holiday activities are concerned. Melbourne is one of the most exciting cities in the world and since your holidays coincide with the summer season, you will be blessed with a plethora of indoor and outdoor activities. During the day, we can hit the beach, shop around or go sightseeing while at night, we can choose among clubbing, dining at restaurants or, if you prefer, having a drink in a pub.
Even though, December signals the start of the summer period, nights can be chilling. I would, thus, advise you to pack your suitcase with both light and warm clothes.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Cheers
Jess

Essay topic:
You will move to a new city for work. You know some people who live there.
-ask them for help finding accommodation
-tell them where you would like to live
-tell them the type of place you are looking for
Dear John and Mary-Jane,
How have you been? I have not heard from you since the Christmas party organized by Bob last year. I have some pleasant news to share with you. I have recently been promoted to manager and will be moving to Sydney as part of this new position.
As longstanding residents of that city, I was hoping that you could help me with my accommodation search, especially with inspections and negotiations with leasing agents. I am particularly looking for a place in or near the central business district since I will be working there. I would prefer living within walking distance to a train station or a bus stop as driving to the city can be quite troublesome during peak hours and parking can also be expensive.
I am not fussy about the type of accommodation but will gladly accept apartments, house flats, studios or any other type of dwellings. Rent is not an issue as my company will be settling the bill. But a place with one bedroom, a private bathroom and a kitchen will be sufficient as I do not wish to spend my time cleaning a large area. Of course, you are free to make any suggestion.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Cheers
Bob

Essay topic:
Your neighbors have recently written to you to complain about the noise from your house flat. Write a letter to your neighbors. In your letter

-apologize
-describe what action you will take
Dear Mr Paul,
I am writing in response to your complaint letter dated the 1st of October.
The blasting music and constant shouting emanating from my house flat on the 31st of August stemmed from a housewarming party which I organized to celebrate my recent moving in at house flat number 3. While the party started relatively quietly in the evening, it quickly escalated to a noisier level as some of my friends subsequently bought some drinks and stereo equipment.
I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. I understand that the disturbance deeply affected your sleeping schedule since you also work on Saturdays, unlike most of people. It was not acceptable on my part to run a party until early hours of a Saturday morning.
In the future, I will ensure that this type of gathering remain under control and is restricted to a limited number of guests. I will further seek your approval before planning similar events or give you a few days notice so that you can make the necessary arrangements.
Regards
Sheila

Dear Mr John,
I am a current part-time student in your Introduction to Accounting evening class at Chisholm Institute. I am simultaneously working as a full-time teller at Sons Bank Ltd which explains why I have enrolled in an evening course.
Unfortunately, as from the start of November, I will no longer be able to attend any of your lessons during the week as I have recently been promoted as an assistant manager. With the added responsibilities attached to the new position, I will be leaving work at 5.30pm instead of 4pm. As a result, I will be missing half of each class if I wish to continue the course.
Nevertheless, I believe that the accounting lessons will be beneficial to my career as accounting is closely related to banking. From browsing the institution’s website, I learned that the same course is also conducted during weekends. I would be most grateful if I could transfer to the weekend program. If you are not the person responsible for this matter, can you forward me the contact details of the person in charge please?
Your help and understanding is most appreciated.
Regards,
Tom Black.

Your car is hired from a company and while you are driving on holiday, you have a small accident. You will have to write a report to the company to explain it.

Essay topic:
Your car is hired from a company and while you are driving on holiday, you have a small accident. You will have to write a report to the company to explain it. You need to explain:
- when are where you hired it
- describe how the accident happened
- what kind of action did you take after the accident
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing in regards to the car which I hired on the 24th of October 2012 at around noon at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport. My registration number is AM 24000689.
Unfortunately, the car was damaged in a minor accident involving another vehicle while I was driving in the central business district on the same day. The other drive failed to stop at a red light and almost collided into the right door of my car at an intersection. Though he managed to brake beforehand, he was unable to avoid the side mirror which was completely ruined from his carelessness.
As a result, I filled in the necessary reports and insurance forms. On a positive note, the other party’s insurance company will be able to cover any extra cost which is not included in the insurance policy I subscribe to when I hired the car.
I sincerely apologize for this incident. Should you wish to obtain further information about it, feel free to contact me.
Yours faithfully,
John Byrne
