Holidays honor people or events. If you could create a new holiday, what person or event would it honor and how would you want people to celebrate it?

Essay topic:
Holidays honor people or events. If you could create a new holiday, what person or event would it honor and how would you want people to celebrate it?
Throughout history, holidays have been the principal symbol of country's culture, lifestyle and tradition. Therefore, even today there are numerous types of holiday celebrated around the world to represent their country's tradition and honor the famous ancient people. Thus, in my opinion there should be a new holiday specifically honored to celebrate the birth of the most famous Mongolian warrior and king, Genghis King who unified the Mongol tribes and eventually proclaimed the Great Mongol Empire in 1st of December in 1206. Due to this fact, today's prosperous Mongolia exists the way it is now. Therefore, without a doubt I believe that a holiday named ' The Rebirth of Mongolia' should be celebrated around every corner of our nation in 1st of December every year.
It is an undeniable fact that Genghis King successfully unified our Mongolian nation together with his vigorous fighting skills and benevolent mind. Before the unification of Mongolia, our nation had been scattered and the citizens were in chaos and confusion. However, after the advent of our Great Genghis King, our ancestors were united and eventually conquered and colonized the half of the world. It is considered that Mongolian Empire during Genghis Khan's reign was the most powerful and the biggest empire that ever existed during the course of history. As a result, he is a well-known figure throughout our nation but there is no specific day that reminds him to us.
As the children of Great Genghis Khan, I believe it is only right to celebrate this new holiday by paying great respect and care to commemorate the contributions he made to this nation. Therefore, in the 1st of December, every Mongolians should wear the fully equipped traditional clothing and read the educational books written by Genghis Khan. Moreover, eating our traditional food at family gathering is a must to do in this day. The elders should also teach their children the contributions the king made and the great lessons he taught to the nation. This way, our future generations get to have chance to realize the importance of him.
All in all, Genghis King was and still is the most important person in our history who created a prosperous and thriving life for his future nation. Therefore, every 1st of December should be dedicated to his achievements that he made and every year we can realize the importance of him and the nation's unification.

The twenty-first century has begun. What changes do you think this new century will bring?

Essay topic:
The twenty-first century has begun. What changes do you think this new century will bring?
Today we live in a highly developing world with increasing improvements in technology and innovative products. Over the last course of centuries, humans have invented variety of new machines and medicines, such as cars, computers, antibiotics and drugs that affected people’s lives positively. Thus, in the twenty first century, we will be facing more improvements and advancements in medical, technological and psychological factors. A medicine that will cure any type of cancer, flying cars and memory erasing drugs would be the most substantial changes that this new era will bring.
Among the problems we are facing now, the most significant one is the the incurable types of diseases that are taking away lives of our precious ones. However, doctors are working harder than ever before to meet the demand of drugs and medicines that are required to cure diseases such as certain cancers and chronic illnesses. For instance, my brother passed away from a lung cancer due to inadequate supply of medicines and drugs.
Other than advancement in medical factors, in this century we would certainly see a car flying over our roofs with excitement and fascination. It is an undeniable fact that as a child, I enjoyed watching a batman flying in a car, chasing the bad guys. However, with the advanced technology in transportation in the 21st century, the innovation of a flying car would be practically possible. As a result, scientists of this generation are on the brick of making the impossible happen possible.
Without a doubt, people are facing the problem of being hurt emotionally by certain past memories or the feelings that are lingering on their minds. Teenage girls are on the verge of suicide being dumped by their boyfriends and adults are constantly feeling over-pressured due to never ending work. As a result, the need of memory erasing drugs is increasing in a society full of problems. Therefore, it is an undeniable fact that scientists would develop such drugs that would help put our mind at ease and peacefulness.
We live in the twenty first century where impossible is possible to happen due to highly developing technology and the demand of medicines that would cure incurable diseases. It is such a fortune that the citizens of 21st century would be able to see such inventions that would fascinate us.

Many students choose to attend schools or universities outside their home countries. Why do some students study abroad?

Essay topic:
Many students choose to attend schools or universities outside their home countries. Why do some students study abroad?
Today we live in a globalized era where the number of students studying abroad is increasing rapidly over the last course of years. There are numerous reasons why students chose to study abroad instead of pursuing education in their home country. Learning a new language, experiencing different culture and pursuing higher education are the most fundamental reasons of studying abroad.
It is without a doubt that students who study abroad are in advantage of mastering a new language, which would be extremely useful for their future profession. For most new language learners, it is overwhelming and hard to learn a language in their home country without interacting with native speakers. For pragmatic instance, my fellow friends tend to go to English speaking countries in order to master fluent English pronunciation and comprehension skills.
Other than learning a new language, studying abroad enables students to gain higher education system offered especially by developed countries. For example, the education system offered by my native country Mongolia is not sufficient and educational enough in most career majors. Therefore, a number of students in Mongolia tend to pursue majors offered by highly developed countries like USA and England. As a result, students are able to pursue more specialized and sophisticated careers by attending universities abroad as well as securing a stable future.
Another important reason for studying abroad is the experience of cultural diversity. While studying hard in a foreign country, students can travel around breath-taking new places and explore different aspects of the new country. In addition, they can meet and interact with new friends while perceiving different angle and sharing thoughts.
Taking account of all these factors, we can infer that studying abroad has many benefits that urge students to pursue a career in a new country. Students can augment their education as well as having fun exploring the new place. Who would not want to miss such a great opportunity!

Your school has enough money to purchase either computer for students or books for the library. Which should your school choose to buy- computers or books?

Essay topic:
Your school has enough money to purchase either computer for students or books for the library. Which should your school choose to buy- computers or books?
There are numerous equipment and facilities required by school to augment students’ learning environment in order to provide higher education. Therefore, if my school had sufficient amount of money to buy either computer for students or books for the library, it would be a good idea to offer computers to students. There are several reasons why this choice is better than buying books for the library as it can be used as a convenient portable learning device as well as further aiding students’ educational necessities.
It is a known fact that today we live in a highly developing technological era where almost everything is dependent on the use of computers as even schools and universities are introducing computers to their students. If the school plans to buy computers for students, it can ease their busy schedule spent on writing essays by hand whereas with the help of computers, students can easily type out their assignments in no time. As a university student, I find it quite difficult to write out five-hundred-word long essay by hand when it can be quickly typed in computers.
Another fundamental benefit of giving students computers is undoubtedly the easily accessible interaction among students and teachers. As we are all aware of, in order to receive higher education and succeed in schools, the cooperation between students and teachers plays an essential role. Therefore, with the use of computers, they can straightforwardly connect with no problems and students can send teachers their assignment from their home. More importantly, teachers are able to check and revise students’ work during their convenient time saving both parties precious time.
Last but not least, studying requires students to research and receive a lot of information mostly through internet these days. Therefore, when the school offers computers to students, they are able to surf internet on their own computers and collect information they need to further understand their coursework or assignment. Other than searching for information, students can watch videos or movies that are related to their topic of subject.
Taking account of all these factors, we can infer that it would be for the best if the school chose to buy computers for students rather than books for the library due to many beneficial reasons. These include flexible schedule, endless source of information and easily accessible interaction among both students and teachers. Therefore, I would strongly suggest the school to introduce computers to students.

Some people think that we can learn our most important lessons in school. Others think that the knowledge we acquire outside of school is the most important.

Essay topic:
Some people think that we can learn our most important lessons in school. Others think that the knowledge we acquire outside of school is the most important.
Personally, I strongly believe that people acquire life’s most important lessons while attending schools. There are many sources to gain knowledge but there is none like school where the fundamental basic lessons are taught, negative experiences are shared and people are connected.
To begin with, we spend almost half of our lifetime in school, which means that we also get to experience negative aspects of life in there. After all these years of switching many schools, I came to conclude that school is a place full of hatred, jealousy and fierce competition among students who strive to be the ‘best’. What’s more, there is always a problem of being bullied and falsely accused. Once, my precious sister was feeling stressed over the fact that other girls were telling untrue lies behind her back. In the end, she understood how to deal with this situation and became stronger as result. Therefore, such situations influence students to gain confidence, feel independent and stronger in more real and practical life.
In addition to that, lessons taught in school are both necessary and essential for our future career and life in general. We learn various topics in classes such as biology, chemistry and history. More specifically, we acquire the knowledge of our past history, the basic understanding of human body and the ability to solve simple mathematical problems. Surprisingly, as a naïve girl who once thought that these classes were unnecessary and simply boring, I was surprised to realize that these so called ‘unnecessary’ lessons were, in fact, extremely useful and practical. After all these years of sweating and swearing over my physical education classes, I was able to escape from vicarious thieves who were on the verge of stealing my precious belongings.
Lastly, people find their best friends in school who teaches them lessons and aids them in a positive way. It is without a doubt that friends are the most important source of knowledge and lessons. Take my friend whom I met during my high school years for an example. As a cynical teenager who was once addicted to smoking, I persuaded my friend to give up on it and live healthy in order to live life to the fullest. Seeking temporary happiness for the exchange of permanent healthy life was not the best option she deserved and I told her blatantly. Now, she is a healthy person who cringes at the thought of smoking. There were countess moments where we helped and taught lessons to each other in life’s harshest moments.
By taking account of all these factors, I think that we are most inclined to understand and learn the most vital lessons by attending schools. People can experience both practical and theoretical knowledge as well as find once in a lifetime friend who would further guide them to become a successful person.

Why do you think some people are attracted to dangerous sports or other dangerous activities? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Essay topic:
Why do you think some people are attracted to dangerous sports or other dangerous activities? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
We can see that many people risk their precious lives by being attracted to precarious sports and activities. So the question arises, why do people put their life at risk in order to take part in such life-threatening activities? In my opinion, feeling rush of adrenaline, escaping from same old life and impressing other people are the main reasons of the attraction towards these activities.
First of all, most people normally live in calm, relaxing atmosphere with regular routine, whereas to some people this type of living appears to be same old boring reality. Therefore, in order to seek for ‘new’ type of life with full of excitement, adventure thriving people love doing bungee jumping, speed racing, extreme kayaking and endless list of dangerous sports. To certain extent, I agree that these life-threating activities can be refreshing and stress relieving as I once tried bungee jumping and felt completely free from all the problems that were surrounding me.
In addition to finding more exciting lifestyle, dangerous sports and activities can be seen as a method to simply have fun and enjoy the rush of adrenaline. For instance, the running of the bulls is the most widely known and recognized sport in worldwide, especially in Spain; it is a sport that requires people running away from bulls that have been let loose. Although it is considered highly dangerous as many are injured and even killed in some extreme cases, a number of people still enjoy participating in this activity to get pumped up and feel both nervousness and excitement. In TVs and shows featuring the running of the bulls, one can easily see the excitement and happiness in their eyes.
On top of these reasons, I believe that a large number of people, especially men, tend to take participation in this type of hazardous activities n order to appear strong, vigorous and brave. I have seen my male friends race competitively in speed racing in order to beat each other. Speed racing is, without a doubt, a highly precarious sport that requires an extensive knowledge of driving and without the proper equipment and care, one can easily lose their lives in swift of moment. But, there is nothing stronger than the feeling of competiveness.
We can conclude that each individual has their own reason and preference for taking part in dangerous activities such as feeling excited, getting away from reality and feeling competitive. In a society full of negativity, it is only right that we get to experience refreshing but dangerous activities- only if it is taken seriously with right mind and proper care.

People today spend too much time on personal enjoyment – doing things they like to do – rather than doing things they should do.

Essay topic:
People today spend too much time on personal enjoyment – doing things they like to do – rather than doing things they should do.
Every single human being on this earth has duties that they must do as well as activities that they enjoy doing. As a result, one must balance these two in order to live successfully. However, in my opinion, people nowadays tend to spend too much time on doing things they are obliged to do rather enjoy some quality time on personal activities.
From the time we attend high school, we are obliged to sit in stiff chair for long hours five times a week. Although there are some who appreciate the value of gaining education, spending our precious youth in classrooms taught by old-fashioned teachers is not the ideal type of life people would choose. In no way I disagree with the fact that school is the main source of knowledge as well as the main enemy of our personal enjoyment. For instance, my younger brother is addicted to sports, especially football and wants to pursue a career in this specific field. However, overwhelmed by the pile of assignments and works he has to finish in school, he eventually ended up doing things he ‘should’ do.
Only when we think that all the pressure of high school is under the roof, the necessity of working and earning money comes along with even more stress and pressure. Without a doubt, the necessity of working is the most vital aspect of one’s life, if not the most enjoyable one. Despite the few number of people who supposedly enjoy working in their desirable field, the number of people who even despise the idea of waking up at 6 am in the morning is much higher. I can tell this from my father’s pragmatic instance. Although his job is highly paid as well as highly respected profession, he is always in a stress working in office and dealing with customers who release negative energy. As a result, he ended up doing the right thing, not for his personal enjoyment.
In addition, while people attend high schools and go to work, they live under the obligation that they need to meet the satisfaction of others. Especially the society we reside in today, there are endless number of rules and regulations that I can’t even enumerate. From the moment one steps out of his/her house, he/she will be bombarded with rules stating what the person can or can’t do such as don’t park here, don’t smoke here, used only for people over 18, and many more regulations that can be seen in everyday life. For example, when my brother and I intended to watch a heart-breaking motivational movie with no explicit content, they turned us away saying it was supposedly for only adults. As a result, we citizens are exhausted and deprived of doing what we enjoy to do.
Taking account of all these factors, one can infer that although there are certain people who enjoy doing what they do, most others are bombarded with life’s rules and regulations from the time people attend high school to start working in practical life. Therefore, in order make some quality time for personal enjoyment, we must balance our ‘wants’ and ‘needs’.

Life today is easier and more comfortable than it was when your grandparents were children.

Essay topic:
Life today is easier and more comfortable than it was when your grandparents were children.
Today we live in a highly developed society with readily available products and new technology that make our day-to-day lives much easier and convenient than it was 100 years ago. Therefore, I strongly believe that I live in a more comfortable atmosphere than my grandparents did when they were children. It is mainly due to the advent of smartphones, development in medical equipment and the end of Soviet Union regime in Mongolia.
It is a widely known fact that our ancestors, including my grandparents, lived under the highly strict regime of Soviet Union and didn’t have the liberty and freedom as we have today. During this harsh time, people were restricted from speaking out against the rules of government as many people, mostly monks and intellectuals, were persevered and poorly treated when they protested against the government. Regardless of age, race, sex and wealth, every single individual of our grandparent’s generation was required to obey the rules given by Soviet Union. However, in 1990s, my country Mongolia was freed and people were emancipated when socialist regime of Soviet Union broke down. As a result, we, the children of our grandparents, are able to live in placid, calm and prosperous society with no strict regime.
As a result of the advent of democracy in Mongolia, several beneficial changes have been made, as the most fundamental one was the development in better health system. Number of great doctors from all over the world came to Mongolia in order to provide our citizens with better health care. Before this change, our grandparents had no proper access to hospitals and even if they had, those hospitals didn’t have the useful equipment and medical facilities that was required. Due to this fact, many innocent people, especially children, died at early age and even more people continued to live in pain and suffering that was considered untreatable at that time.
In addition to better hospitals and health care system, the advent of technology, especially smartphones were introduced with even greater impact. When Mongolia was under the control of Soviet Union, they virtually had no access to outer world as any tool of communication was prohibited in most cases. My grandparents didn’t have the smartphones or the concept of Internet during their childhood. On the other hand, almost all the children today greatly make use of smartphones by playing games, interacting among each other and listening to variety types of music.
For all of these reasons above, I can proudly say that the society I live in now is easier and more comfortable than the society my grandparents lived in. During their childhood, they didn’t even have the right to speak, and as a result they lived in poor living conditions and were separated from the rest of the world by having no communication tools. However, nowadays everything is readily available at the touch of our fingers making it possible for us to live more comfortably.

Should a city try to preserve its old, historic buildings or destroy them and replace them with modern buildings? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

Essay topic:
#65 Should a city try to preserve its old, historic buildings or destroy them and replace them with modern buildings? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
The issue here is whether old, historic buildings in a city should be preserved or replaced by modern buildings. In my opinion, buildings of historical value should definitely be protected rather than destroyed. I base my point of view on following reasons.
Firstly, each historical building is precious property of human being. Like an antic, the value of an old building can not be measured by money. We will lose those valuable historical buildings permanently if we don't preserve them. Once a historical building is destroyed, we can never restore it; even if it is restored to its original look, the new building is only a fake replica; the historical value will never come back to us.
Secondly, a historic building always represents history and has educational functions. Each one of them can tell us a story. For example, some buildings are evidences of foreign invasion, others are signs of various religions existed in past decades. People nowadays can always obtain historic or cultural information through visiting these old buildings and sites. Although we can learn the past from books, pictures and by visiting museums, nothing can compare with the actual historical buildings themselves, which can bring vivid educational material to us.
Thirdly, historical buildings are a symbol of a city and a valuable tourist resource; therefore a city cannot go without historical buildings. Beijing is represented by the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, which are all historical relics. It is hard to imagine that someday the City of Beijing decides that all these buildings should be destroyed and modern buildings be built on their sites. Because those historical relics and buildings are too important to the city and can generate profound tourist income. A city will benefit more by protecting its historic buildings than by replacing them with modern buildings.
For all reasons given above, I will strongly suggest a city municipal should preserve the old, historic buildings.

A company has announced that it wishes to build a large factory near your community. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this new influence on your community. Do you support or oppose the factory? Explain your position.

Essay topic:
#5 A company has announced that it wishes to build a large factory near your community. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this new influence on your community. Do you support or oppose the factory? Explain your position.
I have been living in a peaceful and quiet town for about 10 years. All people who live there are so kind, and the landscape is so beautiful that I love the town very much. Recently I heard news that a company will set up a new factory near my community. I was shocked and I hold a negative opinion about this decision.
The main reason why I oppose this plan is that establishing a new factory will cause environmental pollution. Take air pollution for example, as we know, a factory will give off a lot of waste gases which are harmful to people's health. Even though the factory will take measurements to purify the air, it can not make the air as clean as before. It is no doubt that people's health will be affected by the gases emitted from the factory. A factory also pollute rivers and streams. Our water will be too dirty to drink. Then environment will be damaged and people's health will be affected by the factory.
Another reason is that a factory makes too much noise. My community is always a quiet place and that is just what I like the most. A factory will cause the town to become too noisy. For example, every morning, we will be awoken from our dreams by the noise of buses which take workers to the factory. The noise of engines will also give bad influence to our temper, and may make us susceptible to anger, and easily lose our temper.
Furthermore, a strong reason to oppose this idea is that building a factory will destroy the landscape of this town. Most people living in this town make their living by cultivating and harvesting crops. The factory is inappropriate with the landscape of the town and it will occupy the land that is used for farming. It is a pleasant place now. It is safe and quiet. If a large factory is built there, our town will change a lot due to it.
Of course, building a factory also has advantages to some extent. For example, a factory will bring growth to the town. It will bring more working opportunities for local people, and also it will help to develop the local economy. But comparing with the disadvantages, I strongly oppose the idea to build a factory near my community.

How do movies or television influence people's behavior? use reasons and specific examples to support your answer.

Essay topic:
#7 How do movies or television influence people's behavior? use reasons and specific examples to support your answer.
Movies or television have given big influences to the lives of most of us. We spend a lot of hours every week watching movies on DVD or television programs without noticing it, so of course it will affect our behavior. Unfortunately, according to some surveys, it is often said that the effect of movies or television is usually negative. A certain survey shows that television makes people more violent, more inactive, and less imaginative as follows.
Firstly, many televison programs or movies are violent because it is one of the easiest ways to catch a lot of viewer's attention. The more we see violence on television, the less sensitive we become to it. Eventually violence itself may not seem wrong. This is especially true because violence on the screen does not seem to have consequences. Actors can be killed and come back for other television programs or movies. Sometimes we confuse that with reality and we forget that killing someone is permanent.
Secondly, watching television or movies makes us less active. The act of watching television or movies requires almost no activity on the part of the watcher. We just turn it on and change the channels. In addition, all the time that we spend in front of the television is time that we are not spending moving around, playing a sport, or taking a walk. Being inactive can make us feel even more unmotivated to exercise. A survey clarifys that lack of exercise does indeed have numerous adverse effects on the human body. It can lead to cancer, diabetes, obesity, heart diseases, stroke, cognitive decline or dementia, low immunity level, osteoporosis, a fatty liver disease known as hepatic steatosis, risk of injuries and can also affect the transfer of oxygen through blood.
Finally, when we watch television or movies, we do not exercise our imagination. All the stories are told for us. We do not even have to imagine what a character or a place looks like because everything is shown to us. When we have television, we do not have to invent a way to spend a few free moments. We just turn on the television and watch without exercising our imagination. According to a survey, lack of immagination due to watching television can lead to lack of consideration to others, which often results in criminal acts.
Television is a big influence in modern life and it can be a valuable educational tool. The other side of television, however, is that it has a strong negative effect on our behavior, encouraging us to accept violence and to be inactive and unimaginative.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Parents are the best teachers. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Essay topic:
#2 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Parents are the best teachers. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Who are the best teachers in our lives? In my opinion, the first teachers we have in our lives in most cases are our parents. They teach us to walk, to speak, and to have good manners before we go out into the real world. More than the professional teachers that we have in school, parents are generally the most involved in the development and education of children.
The main reason for my point of view is that our parents are the best teachers at the beginning of everybody's lives, which actually corresponds to parents' role in nature. Parents are the most committed and involved in teaching their children; they have a kind of instinct to sacrifice a part of themselves for the betterment of their children. They love their children and have great patience while passing down their knowledge to us. They wish us a success and thus will not teach us bad things. And of course, implicit learning occurs when children unconsciously copy some of their parents' habits and styles of behavior.
Furthermore, during the second stage of a child's development, adolescence, parents can still be in the best position to offer advice even though the children might not accept it. In this case, perhaps the child's friends would be the best teachers. Adolescents are notoriously rebellious in many cultures and may automatically reject any advice from their parents. My marriage, for instance, was solely a matter of doing the opposite of what my parents wanted when they tried to intrude in offering their advice. So in such matters, parents should be much more flexible and understand their children. We can see that being a teacher of growing child becomes more and more complicated as time passes and many parents are simply not able to meet the increased demands.
On the other hand, I would say that parents are not professional teachers and they tend to be very biased by their love of their children. So wishing good things and an easy life for them may prevent children from maturation. In any case, usually parents can present only one viewpoint of the world, while good teaching should be based on different attitudes. Thus, when children go to school and have a great diversity of teachers, they learn much more than their parents could possibly teach them. Furthermore, once our parents get older, they become more conservative and cannot always be objective in regard to modern trends and fashions.
Thus, we need to take their advice with caution during that time period. While parents are not the ideal teachers, and well-rounded children will generally need a great diversity of teachers in their lives in order to have a more accurate view of the world, parents are generally the most committed of all teachers and have the greatest emotional investment in their children and their future.

Nowadays, food has become easier to prepare. Has this change improved the way people live? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Essay topic:
#3 Nowadays, food has become easier to prepare. Has this change improved the way people live? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Nowadays, wherever we turn our gaze, we can see different types of food that are easier to prepare. For instance, we can buy frozen foods in a supermarket and just prepare it in a couple of minutes, whereas before it could have taken us maybe hours to prepare those kinds of meals. I would accept that this so-called improvement has changed our lives, but I believe that there are some drawbacks as well.
It is true that these kinds of food do not involve hard work to prepare, but food that is easy to prepare generally has some artificial ingredients mixed in it that makes it "easy-to-cook". If we take time to read the ingredients, we would definitely come across words like preservatives or artificial flavorings. It was just a couple of days ago that I came across a newspaper article which stated that someone was poisoned because he ate this type of food. He was hospitalized for almost a month.
This may be an extreme case, but it is a fact that processed or precooked foods no longer have the freshness that they once had. Such foods loose their mineral and vitamin content and are not as healthy as fresh food. That is why the number of diseases is also rising. People have also shifted to high calorie content food like French fries, pizzas, and ice cream, etc., which is causing obesity, and fatigue etc. As man is becoming busy and too involved in his busy schedule, he has no time even to take care of his own personal needs. Furthermore, cooking is an art which is dying out. People once enjoyed cooking . It was a means of eliminating stress and tension. People were once able to relax during this time and reflect on their lives.
Not having to cook has also taken the fun out of cooking. Cooking is an art, but in today's world, this is no longer true. People are so busy with their work that they just rely on these simple foods. The invention and production of these foods have made people lazy not only about cooking but also for a good family get-together. It is not like former times when families would sit together and eat freshly cooked food. Instead, they are getting these artificial things with minimal nutrients in them. Home-cooking used to be much better than it is today. People would spend more time in the kitchen, preparing the food in the way that they liked it. This brought families closer together and also contributed to the high quality and nutrition of the food.
People may tend to argue that by using precooked and preprocessed food they are efficiently using time and can use this precious time saved for other purposes. But is it really worth it? This is a question whose answer can invite much speculation about whether by saving this little time we are inviting lots of other problems, which could easily be avoided. It is actually making our lives not simpler but more complicated. We have lost many of the simpler things in our lives, like the simple acts of selecting our evening meal, preparing it, and enjoying it with our loved ones, and we are worse off for it.
Granted, people are busier nowadays and do not have as much time as they did in the past, but I believe that people have forgotten the importance of healthy, fresh food and of the time a family spends together preparing the food. So, I would say that having food that is easy to prepare has many disadvantages.

It has been said, "Not everything that is learned is contained in books." Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why?

Essay topic:
#4 It has been said, "Not everything that is learned is contained in books." Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why?
There are two main channels for people to learn knowledge: from books and from experience. Generally, while knowledge gained from books is theoretical, that gained from experience is practical. It is difficult to answer which is more important to people. It depends on the phases and events of our learning. Knowledge learned from books is instructive, which perhaps cannot be learnt directly from experience. We often hear thunder and see lightning in the sky, and we can easily find out that lightning will be seen sooner than sound will be heard.
According to our experience alone, we cannot tell why this happens. But when we learn some physics in textbooks, we will find the answer that while light travels faster than sound does, it takes less time for light to travel the same distance as sound. Therefore, book knowledge can inform us some useful theories that can give us general ideas and help us understand the real phenomenon better.
In turn, practical knowledge can check out the theories gained from books. There is an old Chinese saying that practice is the only criterion of inspecting the truth. So not all knowledge from books is credible. Rather, it can be even false. When Aristotle wrote in his transcripts that the earth is the center of our solar system, no one doubted it for centuries. However, when Galileo read about it, he did not suspect it at first, but when he made some observations and research, he found it was not the truth. Then he came to the new theory called heliocentrism, which is the theory that the Sun is at the center of the Solar System.
In our daily lives, we can learn much information from practice. To learn swimming, it is useless to be absorbed in reading skills written in books. Only when you learn it in a swimming pool, you can make it. There are still a lot of things you must learn from your own experience, such as driving a car, riding a bicycle, operating a machine. And the most important is that it is often easier learn knowledge from practice than from books. As far as average people are concerned, it is natural to learn from experience. Primitive people learned skills one to one which is the way they were handed down from one generation to another.
Modern people also learn things in practice. In workshops, leading workers teach apprentices carefully; in activity clubs, teachers teach youngsters to be familiar with their hobbies. It is obvious that all things considered knowledge gained from practice is more close and direct than that from books. Therefore, the two kinds of knowledge has importance. For researchers, knowledge from books is more important, while for average people, knowledge from practice is more important. As students, we must first learn knowledge from books well, and at the same time we must have the good sense to tell what is right from what is wrong.
