Essay topic:
Why do you think some people are attracted to dangerous sports or other dangerous activities? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
We can see that many people risk their precious lives by being attracted to precarious sports and activities. So the question arises, why do people put their life at risk in order to take part in such life-threatening activities? In my opinion, feeling rush of adrenaline, escaping from same old life and impressing other people are the main reasons of the attraction towards these activities.
First of all, most people normally live in calm, relaxing atmosphere with regular routine, whereas to some people this type of living appears to be same old boring reality. Therefore, in order to seek for ‘new’ type of life with full of excitement, adventure thriving people love doing bungee jumping, speed racing, extreme kayaking and endless list of dangerous sports. To certain extent, I agree that these life-threating activities can be refreshing and stress relieving as I once tried bungee jumping and felt completely free from all the problems that were surrounding me.
In addition to finding more exciting lifestyle, dangerous sports and activities can be seen as a method to simply have fun and enjoy the rush of adrenaline. For instance, the running of the bulls is the most widely known and recognized sport in worldwide, especially in Spain; it is a sport that requires people running away from bulls that have been let loose. Although it is considered highly dangerous as many are injured and even killed in some extreme cases, a number of people still enjoy participating in this activity to get pumped up and feel both nervousness and excitement. In TVs and shows featuring the running of the bulls, one can easily see the excitement and happiness in their eyes.
On top of these reasons, I believe that a large number of people, especially men, tend to take participation in this type of hazardous activities n order to appear strong, vigorous and brave. I have seen my male friends race competitively in speed racing in order to beat each other. Speed racing is, without a doubt, a highly precarious sport that requires an extensive knowledge of driving and without the proper equipment and care, one can easily lose their lives in swift of moment. But, there is nothing stronger than the feeling of competiveness.
We can conclude that each individual has their own reason and preference for taking part in dangerous activities such as feeling excited, getting away from reality and feeling competitive. In a society full of negativity, it is only right that we get to experience refreshing but dangerous activities- only if it is taken seriously with right mind and proper care.
