#7 How do movies or television influence people's behavior? use reasons and specific examples to support your answer.
Movies or television have given big influences to the lives of most of us. We spend a lot of hours every week watching movies on DVD or television programs without noticing it, so of course it will affect our behavior. Unfortunately, according to some surveys, it is often said that the effect of movies or television is usually negative. A certain survey shows that television makes people more violent, more inactive, and less imaginative as follows.
Firstly, many televison programs or movies are violent because it is one of the easiest ways to catch a lot of viewer's attention. The more we see violence on television, the less sensitive we become to it. Eventually violence itself may not seem wrong. This is especially true because violence on the screen does not seem to have consequences. Actors can be killed and come back for other television programs or movies. Sometimes we confuse that with reality and we forget that killing someone is permanent.
Secondly, watching television or movies makes us less active. The act of watching television or movies requires almost no activity on the part of the watcher. We just turn it on and change the channels. In addition, all the time that we spend in front of the television is time that we are not spending moving around, playing a sport, or taking a walk. Being inactive can make us feel even more unmotivated to exercise. A survey clarifys that lack of exercise does indeed have numerous adverse effects on the human body. It can lead to cancer, diabetes, obesity, heart diseases, stroke, cognitive decline or dementia, low immunity level, osteoporosis, a fatty liver disease known as hepatic steatosis, risk of injuries and can also affect the transfer of oxygen through blood.
Finally, when we watch television or movies, we do not exercise our imagination. All the stories are told for us. We do not even have to imagine what a character or a place looks like because everything is shown to us. When we have television, we do not have to invent a way to spend a few free moments. We just turn on the television and watch without exercising our imagination. According to a survey, lack of immagination due to watching television can lead to lack of consideration to others, which often results in criminal acts.
Television is a big influence in modern life and it can be a valuable educational tool. The other side of television, however, is that it has a strong negative effect on our behavior, encouraging us to accept violence and to be inactive and unimaginative.
