Essay topic:
Life today is easier and more comfortable than it was when your grandparents were children.
Today we live in a highly developed society with readily available products and new technology that make our day-to-day lives much easier and convenient than it was 100 years ago. Therefore, I strongly believe that I live in a more comfortable atmosphere than my grandparents did when they were children. It is mainly due to the advent of smartphones, development in medical equipment and the end of Soviet Union regime in Mongolia.
It is a widely known fact that our ancestors, including my grandparents, lived under the highly strict regime of Soviet Union and didn’t have the liberty and freedom as we have today. During this harsh time, people were restricted from speaking out against the rules of government as many people, mostly monks and intellectuals, were persevered and poorly treated when they protested against the government. Regardless of age, race, sex and wealth, every single individual of our grandparent’s generation was required to obey the rules given by Soviet Union. However, in 1990s, my country Mongolia was freed and people were emancipated when socialist regime of Soviet Union broke down. As a result, we, the children of our grandparents, are able to live in placid, calm and prosperous society with no strict regime.
As a result of the advent of democracy in Mongolia, several beneficial changes have been made, as the most fundamental one was the development in better health system. Number of great doctors from all over the world came to Mongolia in order to provide our citizens with better health care. Before this change, our grandparents had no proper access to hospitals and even if they had, those hospitals didn’t have the useful equipment and medical facilities that was required. Due to this fact, many innocent people, especially children, died at early age and even more people continued to live in pain and suffering that was considered untreatable at that time.
In addition to better hospitals and health care system, the advent of technology, especially smartphones were introduced with even greater impact. When Mongolia was under the control of Soviet Union, they virtually had no access to outer world as any tool of communication was prohibited in most cases. My grandparents didn’t have the smartphones or the concept of Internet during their childhood. On the other hand, almost all the children today greatly make use of smartphones by playing games, interacting among each other and listening to variety types of music.
For all of these reasons above, I can proudly say that the society I live in now is easier and more comfortable than the society my grandparents lived in. During their childhood, they didn’t even have the right to speak, and as a result they lived in poor living conditions and were separated from the rest of the world by having no communication tools. However, nowadays everything is readily available at the touch of our fingers making it possible for us to live more comfortably.
