It is generally acknowledged that families are now not as close as they used to be. Give possible reasons and your recommendations.
During the previous decades, we have witnessed some dramatic changes in the dynamics of a typical family, the most notable one being the weaker bond among its members. Numerous causes account for this trend. While most of these are not reversible, some palliative measures can be implemented to prevent relatives from growing further apart from each other.
One of the main reasons behind the worsening relationship among families is the degradation in societal values. Marriages are no longer meant to last forever while elder are eagerly shunned in retirement homes. Young adults, on their hand, are opting to wait longer before taking their wedding vows and often live under different roof from their parents. At this rate, single-parent or single-individual families may replace nuclear ones at a faster rate than extended families were taken over.
These events sadly bear its source from our economic progress. Indeed, as people engage in longer hours of work, they gain financial independence and are able to lead a solitary life without the once-needed support of parents and relatives. Simultaneously, our work alcoholic lifestyle has impeded our availability for family events. For instance, family dinners nowadays revolve more often around a quick home-delivered pizza in front of the television instead of a home-cooked meal prepared by every member of the household and consumed at the common table.
Nevertheless, all is not lost. Various organizations within society can endeavor to build stronger links among relatives. Workplaces may encourage gatherings by implementing incentives such as family leaves or family get-togethers at the companies’ premises. Businesses, which are thirsty for profits may devise family deals such as holidays or meals. The government may toughen labor laws, preventing employers from restraining their staff at work at the expense of their personal life.
To conclude, though special occasions such as New Year is a testament that family bonds remain strong, actions should nonetheless be taken to preserve families.
