Essay topic:
Nowadays, more and more young unmarried adults are choosing to study and live outside their parents’ homes. Do you think this trend is positive?
Over the past decade, the number of young and unmarried adults opting to relocate from their parents’ dwelling for educational purposes has been skyrocketing. The extent to which these individuals benefit from this life decision depends, on a large extent, on their personality and level of maturity.
On one hand, those who have been constantly spoilt by their parents throughout their childhood are most likely to lose from this situation. The sudden lifestyle change may act as a shock from which they may never recover from. Indeed, with no one to do their house chores and cook their meals, they may feel constantly home sick and may even fall into the trap of depression in the long run, wasting their time and investment in the process.
Moreover, those labeled as irresponsible and with a low degree of maturity may not fare better. Granted with a newfound freedom, they may do as they please at their detriment of their studies. In some cases, they, unfortunately fall prey to drug addiction of other social evils which may eventually ruin their studies and adversely affect their career path.
Fortunately, those who are adequately mature and responsible may see themselves blossom into an even more independent and respectable group of adults. With the absence of their parents, they learn how to cook, clean and cater for their own needs whilst managing their classes and any part-time job held to financially support themselves. These skills, which may never have been acquired have they remained under the same roof as their parents, will later prove pivotal as they set up and run their own household.
To conclude, the extent to which each young and unmarried adult gain from moving out of their parents’ home can only be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Nevertheless, parents cannot constantly dote on their offspring, hence forcing them to relocate to pursue a tertiary degree is a risky but promising decision to compel them to learn how to live on their own.
