Some people think that government should provide library in every town. With the increase in internet, some people think that new libraries could be a waste of money. Discuss your opinion.
In an increasingly technology driven world, society has become accustomed to the instant and easy access to almost everything. The influence of internet in our everyday life is impossible to ignore. Though libraries are portals to all of the world's knowledge, I think government should spend money to make the existing libraries more resourceful rather than building new one.
Studies have shown that the presence of libraries is good for towns and cities as people find more value in areas that have libraries nearby. The existence of libraries ensures that knowledge and technology are available to everyone, not just to those who can afford their own. Libraries are also economically efficient, their model of sharing allows them to serve many people with few resources. As a whole, libraries is a place where people of all ages can practice lifelong learning. For instance, when i was a child I used to go to the library with my grandma where both of us spent several hours enjoying a whole lot collection of books.
On the other hand, there are several reasons why some people believe that building new libraries could be a waste of money. Firstly, someone can have access to a whole world of information with the click of a mouse by using internet. Secondly, information on the internet is updated constantly and instantaneously available worldwide. Last but not the least, human beings are racing against time and there is indeed no time to go to the library to search for the required information while someone can have it instantly right at the fingertips by searching the internet. For example, my husband is preparing for his Certified Financial Analyst exam with the help of internet as he does not have enough free time to go to the library to look for the books.
To sum up, though libraries play a very crucial role in our social life, I think it would be wise for the government to ensure well maintenance of the libraries instead of investing money to build a new one and also let the internet act like a supplement, not the replacement of traditional library.
